The first step of sand casting is putting mold patterns into a box accordingly and placing the sand into it. The following step is preparing the gating system including tunnels and the pouring cup.

The third step is removing the mold patterns from the sandbox, in which the sand has been formed. In the next step, the prepared molten metal will be poured into the mold.

After the molten metal cooling down, we can take the metal casting out of the mold.

What are the advantages of sand casting?

  1. The size of sand casting parts has high flexibility. We can apply sand casting to produce small parts to large parts(100 tonnes).
  2. It can produce metal components with intricate designs.
  3. The time sand casting is spent is less.
  4. The mold can be recycled multiple times.

What are the disadvantages of sand casting?

  1. Sand casting components is lacking accuracy.
  2. The surface of the sand casting parts is rough.
  3. Because sand casting parts are not produced by machining, they are short of strength.
