As one type of injection molding technique, insert molding is a process that puts the metal pieces into the cavities, then and heat the thermoplastic material until it covers the metal pieces. There are many daily applications of insert molding: screwdriver, electronic devices, medical syringes, knobs, threaded fastener, and so on.

Insert Molding PartsThere are various benefits if you choose to insert molding:

  1. Reduce the cost of assembling cost with less labor cost; we apply the machines to assembly the plastic and metal parts directly.
  2. More material options; we can make parts by using various combinations of metal and plastic materials.
  3. Stronger structure strength; the combination of metal and plastic parts can create a stronger physical structure.
  4. Longer lifespan; plastic parts wear easily while metal parts rust easily. If we put them together, they will have a longer lifespan than before.

As to the material range for insert molding, most thermoplastic can apply to make insert-molding parts. The metal materials like aluminum and stainless steel are good choices for it.

Besides, when we talk about insert molding, we often refer to overmolding. Overmoliding is very similar to insert molding. There are also still some differences between them. If you want to know more about overmolding, just click here.Insert Molding and Overmolding Parts
